Clean Water, Strong Communities
Ottawa RIVERKEEPER is a licensed member of Waterkeeper Alliance, an international grass roots advocacy organization founded by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Robert Kennedy has a reputation as a resolute defender of the environment and currently serves as the Chairman of the organization. Waterkeeper Alliance connects and supports 172 local Waterkeeper programs to provide a voice for waterways and their communities worldwide. The Alliance champions clean water and strong communities by supporting and empowering member Waterkeeper organizations to protect communities, ecosystems and water quality. Waterkeeper Alliance acts locally and organizes globally.
A WATERKEEPER is a full-time, non-governmental ombudsman whose special responsibility is to be the full-time public advocate for a water body. Fundamentally, it is the waterkeeper’s job to advocate compliance with environmental laws, respond to citizen complaints, identify problems that affect his or her body of water and recommend appropriate solutions. Waterkeepers are leaders in ensuring that communities maintain control over their local waterways when threatened by development, industrialization or toxic pollution.
The Waterkeeper Alliance head office is located in New York. You can learn more about the fasting growing environmental organization in North America, including website links to other Waterkeeper websites, at www.waterkeeper.org
