Demonstration to support the Pesticide By-Law

Wednesday, October 26, 2005

On October 21, 2005, the City of Ottawa’s Health, Recreation and Social Services Committee approved the staff recommendation to proceed with the adoption of a pesticide by-law for private property.

However, we have one more hurdle to overcome and that is the final vote before full council this Wednesday, October 26th at 1pm. This will not be a slam dunk and success is a little less certain. At the moment, we are still short of votes at Council to pass a bylaw to implement a ban on cosmetic pesticides.

Show your support of a pesticide by-law that restricts the use of cosmetic pesticides. Come out to the Ultimate Demonstration – 12 Noon, Wednesday October 26th, Ottawa City Hall, Festival Plaza stage area.

There will be speeches, drumming and singing. Please feel free to bring placards, banners and noisemakers, however they cannot be brought into the Council Chambers. We will then parade to the Council Chambers where Council will meet to make the final vote on the pesticide bylaw. We must make our presence felt, to show Council our determination and support for a strong pesticide bylaw, for one reason only – for the health of our children!
