EARTH WEEK IN ARNPRIOR

Arnprior - Saturday, April 19, 2008

Preparations are going full steam ahead for the second annual Earth Day Celebration in Arnprior. Earth Day is April 22 but since we want a people of all ages to join the fun, our celebration is on Saturday, April 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This year we have a great variety of participants. Arnprior Parks and Recreation’s Youth Program has been invaluable in helping us pull things together. They are providing tables, chairs and a stage and coordinating children’s activities on the day. There will be face painting, seed planting and three different craft projects for children. Also, with kids (and adults) in mind, at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., “Where does your garbage go?”, examines the effect our choices have on the environment.

For gardeners, this year, we have a Master Gardener, specializing in organic growing, who will speak at 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and be available throughout the day to answer questions. In addition, Canadian Organic Growers, the Arnprior Garden Club and Communities in Bloom will be providing information and items of interest.

We will have over 20 exhibitors this year in addition to an Organic Beef BBQ, Vegan food and desserts, and musical entertainment. The band, Echoes Horizon, will be playing from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.. Music by Shawn and Dave Fridgen will accompany the rest of the day and MyFM will be covering the event. Cub Scouts will be playing an important role in assisting our endeavor, as will members of the Arnprior Parks and Recreation Youth Program.

The Greater Arnprior Environmental Action Council, along with our sponsors and volunteers of all ages are making this day possible. So come and see how we can all work together to make our environment better. We have artists, things to buy and lots of great ideas. Enjoy yourself, buy a ticket for the raffle, relax with the music and some food, and maybe even learn a thing or two.
