The Friends of the Jock River will be having a tree plant on the weekend of May 6 & 7 at the Monahan Stormwater Ponds located inside the North-East corner of Eagleson and Hope Side Roads. The intersection is not far from Fallowfield Village. FJR will be planting 1500 assorted seedlings of ash, oak, maple, pine and spruce to help the City naturalize the area around the ponds. The Monahan Stormwater Ponds are the centre of an important passive recreational area for Briar Green Community and the outflow of the ponds go directly into Monahan Creek (also known as Monahan Drain) and then into the Jock River near Fallowfield Village. A naturalized shoreline adds to the park-like setting and is a significant component of the stormwater treatment facility.
Your assistance is needed to make this tree plant a success.
Time: 9 a.m. to 4 pm Saturday and Sunday and we plant rain or shine
What to bring: a round-nosed shovel with a long or “D” handle (small garden trowels will not work); bucket; water; snacks; sun screen
What to wear: long sleeve shirts and pants; hat; work or gardening gloves; and hiking or work boots are recommended. Since we plant rain or shine, don’t forget to throw in your rain gear if rain is forecast. (Note we do not plant if there is a danger of lightning.)
How to get there: Parking will be available at Meadowbreeze Park, which is next to the Stormwater ponds. Please do not park on Eagleson or Hope side Roads. From Eagleson: turn east on Emerald Meadows Drive; turn right on Grassy Plains Drive; turn right on Meadowbreeze Dr.

FJR will be assisted by Scout and Cub troops, the Briar Green Community Association, church groups, and environmental clubs from local middle schools as well as high school students working to fulfill their Community Service requirements.
