Gatineau River Heritage Paddle

Starting in Wakefield at 10am - Sunday, June 12, 2011

Join the Friends of the Gatineau River for an interpretative paddle down the river between Wakefield and the Gatineau River Yacht Club.

What is the Heritage Paddle on the Gatineau?

A self-guided tour of historical and natural history highlights of the Gatineau River, culminating with a ‘raftsmen’s feast’ at the Gatineau River Yacht Club in Chelsea. The event is being organized by the Friends of the Gatineau River in collaboration with the Gatineau Valley Historical Society. Cost for the raftmen’s feast is $5 per person. The Yacht Club will serve soft drinks ($1); all other beverages are ‘bring your own’.

Please let us know you intend to come so we can prepare the right amount of food for the feast by emailing ontheriver@fog-arg.org

What time does the paddle start and end?

The self-guided Paddle will start at the waterfront park in Wakefield at 10am. Parking is available at the Wakefield Community Centre off Valley Drive. We advise you unload your canoe or kayak in the waterfront park before parking at the Community Centre. The paddle to the Gatineau River Yacht Club is 15 kilometers. A shuttle will be available to return paddlers and canoes from the Gatineau River Yacht Club to Wakefield.

What are the paddling options?

The self-guided tour can start at any location along the Gatineau River (i.e. Wakefield, Farm Point, Cantley). The raftsmen’s feast will take place at the Gatineau River Yacht Club.
