At 11 am, on Saturday, September 22, 2007, on the occasion of the eve of the Autumn Equinox, Elder William Commanda conducted a Pipe Ceremony at the Launch of the Algonquin Canoe Protest Against the Proposed Uraniumn Mine in Frontenac County.
You and your communities and colleagues are invited to join the group in this effort. The paddling protesters will be in Fitzroy Harbour on Wednesday Sept. 26 and will launch from the Government Dock around 8 a.m. Please go out and show your support or join in the paddle.
Paddlers will be arriving at Victoria Island from 3 pm onward on Thursday September 27th. Signing of the Proclamation for a Moratarium on Uranium Mining is starting at 6pm and going on until midnight.
The march to Parliament Hill will take place on Friday morning. Gather at Victoria Island at 9:30 and the march and portage to Parliament Hill will start at 10:00 a.m. Ottawa Riverkeeper will be joining the protest march. You can also join the Rally at Parliament Hill at noon. The paddlers will continue up the Rideau to the Odawa Friendship Centre (12 Stirling Avenue) for the POWER TO CHOOSE OTTAWA FORUM on September 28 (4.30 – 9.00).
Already 2,500 people have signed a petition protesting Uranium Mining (CCAMU and The Green Party of Canada) presented at Parliament Hill September 18, 2007.
