Tired of seeing trash in the Rideau? Roll up your sleeves, put on your rubber boots and “dive” in to the Mother’s Day Rideau River Cleanup. Hosted by the Urban Rideau Conservationists, this environmental event takes place on Sunday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the downtown Ottawa stretch of the beautiful Rideau River.
Drop-in on at one of three locations to sign-in, have a refreshment and get cleanup supplies — the Field House at 193 Stanley Avenue, the Rideau Tennis Club at 1 Donald Street or The Ottawa Tennis and Lawn Bowling Club at 176 Cameron Avenue.
“This Mother’s Day event is a wonderful way to make an immediate and positive impact on the Rideau’s urban environment,” says Urban Rideau Conservationists Coordinator Catherine Canning. “Since 2001, volunteers have pulled tons of garbage out of the River. This clean up is a small effort that has huge impact on our river ecosystem.”
The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority supports this event and asks all of its volunteer to consider getting involved. It’s a great opportunity to help Mother Nature do a little spring cleaning and get ride of unwanted plastic bags, pop cans, car parts and more.
Special thanks to the event sponsors — the City of Ottawa, New Edinburgh Community Alliance, Rideau Valley Conservation Authority and the Green Party.
