Paddling the Boreal Forest: The Story Behind the Book

Come celebrate 150 years of scientific library services in Canada with the launch of Max Finkelstein and James Stone’s newest book, Paddling the Boreal Forest: Rediscovering A.P. Low. In 2002, these master paddlers retraced the canoe route of Albert Peter Low, one of Canada’s most significant explorers and past head of Natural Resources Canada’s Geological Survey of Canada (GSC).

The authors used artifacts, including Low’s maps, photographs, and geological reports, stored in NRCan’s Earth Sciences Information Centre (ESIC). ESIC, created in 1854, is Canada’s oldest science library. A selection of these artifacts will be on display in the Salon, starting at 6:30 p.m. Max Finkelstein will speak at 7:30 p.m. and will be available throughout the evening to sign his book.

Reservations are not required, but seating is limited. Translation services are available.
