Public Consultation Meeting on Ontario’s Drinking Water Quality Standard for Tritiu

Invitation to Participate

The Minister of the Environment has formally requested that the Ontario Drinking Water Advisory Council (ODWAC) provide advice on the current Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standard for Tritium. We are seeking public input before reporting to the Minister and invite you or someone from your organization to participate in a public consultation meeting to be held:

March 26 and 27, 2008, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

How to Participate

If you are interested in the issue of Tritium in drinking water, ODWAC would like to hear from you. You can participate by:

• Making a 10 minute presentation to the Council on March 26th or 27th, 2008;
• Attending the consultation meeting on March 26th and/or 27th, 2008; and/or

• Providing written comments to the Council by March 28th, 2008.

  We are particularly interested in your answers to the following questions, although we welcome any other comments on the topic of Tritium in drinking water you may have:

• Is the current Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standard for Tritium acceptable?
• If not, what is the basis for finding the current Standard unacceptable?

• If you propose a different Standard, what is your rationale?

  Getting Involved

  To request a presentation time, register for the meeting, and obtain information on Council’s public consultation process on the current Ontario Drinking Water Standard for Tritium, please visit ODWAC’s website at:

  All presentation requests should be made by February 22, 2008. Please note that presentation time slots are limited. The Council will schedule presentations to hear from as broad a range of perspectives as possible in the time available. Your written comments are also welcome.
