Spring Runoff Festival

Trailhead, 1960 Scott St. at McRae Avenue - Saturday, April 25, 2009

Mark April 25 on your calendar as a splashy start to paddling season. Trailhead outdoor store is hosting its Spring Runoff Festival.

- What: More than 30 groups — everyone from the YMCA’s canoe club to Ontario Parks — will have booths with maps, photos and details on their favourite canoe or kayak routes from Lake Superior to Quebec’s Papineau Labelle Park. If you’re a paddler (or would like to try paddling), this is a great opportunity to map out your summer.

- What else: Head around the corner to the Champlain Bridge to watch the exciting Level Six Whitewater Cup, an annual wave-riding rodeo on all weekend.

- Try it: Take a Trailhead boat out for a test spin at nearby Westboro Beach.

- Quote: “We call it the Spring Runoff Festival because the fun and information will be flowing after a long winter,” says Mike Mechan, event co-ordinator.

- Cost: Free.

- For sale: In Trailhead’s parking lot, new and used canoes, kayaks and tents.

- Eats: The Christie Lake Kids program will be putting on a pancake breakfast and barbecue lunch at Trailhead.

- When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

- Where: Trailhead, 1960 Scott St. at McRae Avenue – Info: www.trailhead.ca or 613-722-4229
