The 3rd annual Ottawa Riverkeeper Triathlon & Duathlon will take place at Westboro Beach on June 16th. This event is organized and hosted by our friends at Somersault who have graciously named Ottawa Riverkeeper the official charity of this triathlon event.
For every team entered in the Team Challenge Event, Sommersault will donate half the entry fee to Ottawa Riverkeeper. To make this a successful fundraiser, Ottawa Riverkeeper is asking triathlon participants to gather pledges from friends, co-workers and family to help Ottawa Riverkeeper ensure our river is swimmable and fishable.
Help us reach our $10,000 goal.
Ottawa Riverkeeper is a non-governmental, charitable organization. Funds raised from this event will allow us to continue our important work. Did you know that untreated sewage is dumped into the river 100’s of times per year by many municipalities? It’s no wonder our urban beaches are often closed for swimming. At Ottawa Riverkeeper we believe you have a right to swim safely in your river system and this year we are working directly on this issue. We will bring you the numbers, tell you when it is safest to swim and bring your voice to decision-makers. Help us keep our river clean!

The Ottawa Riverkeeper Team Challenge consists of:
Swim Triathlon Relay: swim 500m – cycle 20km – run 5km. Each of the three team members will do one of three relay legs.OR
Canoe Triathlon Relay: paddle 5km – cycle 20km – run 5km. You can choose from the two-person team or the four-person team. In the two-person team, both paddle and then one cycles and the other runs. In the four-person team, two team members paddle, the third cycles and the fourth runs. The event offers something for everyone – see Somersault Promotions for details.
100% of the pledges collected go to Ottawa Riverkeeper.
If you collect over $250 in pledges, you will be eligible to receive a prize. The prizes are donated by local businesses that support a clean and healthy Ottawa River:
To be eligible for prizes, make sure to bring your complete pledge form to the Ottawa Riverkeeper representative on race day. Top pledger will have the first pick at the prizes.
A tax receipt will be available for all donations over $20. Through the pledge program, each team is encouraged to solicit donations from friends and co-workers — 100% of which goes directly to the Riverwatch Program.

Like so many events, volunteers play an important role. We need your help.
Our organizing committee needs help to market the event and increase team participation. If you are an ideas person, join us! If you are a creative person and have graphic design skills, add a new poster or postcard design to your portfolio! If you are well connected in the cities of Gatineau or Ottawa, help us! If you like to meet new people and can encourage team leaders to collect pledges, come on over!
Race Day Help: On June 16, if your kids, spouse, family members, or friends are participating in the triathlon why not volunteer as an official and have some fun too! Last year, Ottawa Riverkeeper volunteers cheered on runners and passed out Gatorade to thirsty racers. Calling out “water/gatorade” or “looking good” can go a long way! Bring a friend along.
If you are willing to help, or would like more information, please contact Delphine Hasle or 613-864-7442.
