Blue-green toxic algae blooms have been observed in lakes and rivers of our watershed. The National Capital Commission recently closed O’Brien Beach on Meech Lake in Gatineau Park after cyanobacteria was found near the shore.
If you are interested in checking the status of your local lake or river, the Quebec Government is monitoring and reporting on lakes and rivers affected by blue-green algae. If your local waterbody is affected, get informed and find out what you can do to help prevent future blooms.
Please note the list is only available in Quebec. Ontario lakes, just like Quebec lakes, have episodic cyanobacterial blooms but Ontario has decided not to report them.
