It appears more raw sewage flowed into the Ottawa River in 2010 than the year before.
Statistics posted on the City of Ottawa’s website show 891 million litres of raw sewage overflowed the system and into the historic waterway during rain events between April 16th and December 12th.
In 2009, a total of 647-million litres of raw sewage flowed into the Ottawa River.
City Council approved a $252-million plan last year to eliminate sewage overflows, including building underground tanks to catch the overflow from the sewers during heavy rain events.
