Aylmer residents hire independent expert to study Cook Landfill Site

Press Release, Gatineau QC - Monday, October 30, 2006

The Cook, Aylmer-North Residents Association has hired the Fondex environmental firm to study the Gatineau Municipal Council’s decisions concerning the Cook Landfill Site.

Fondex Outaouais has been in business since 1971. The company has built a multidisciplinary team of geotechnical engineers, biologists, geographers, agronomists, hydrogeologists and environmental technicians. Fondex has proven waste-management experience (composting, waste water treatment and dry and household waste).

Fondex has been asked to assess the soundness of the municipal decisions concerning the Cook Landfill site and to assess the methods chosen by the city to evaluate other proposed composting sites within Gatineau. The Cook, Aylmer North Residents Association’s concerns go beyond the Cook Site alone. As such, Fondex is to advise our Association on the merits of the Municipality of Gatineau’s approach in meeting the requirements of the Residual Materials Management Plan (PGMR).

In the immediate, Fondex is to review documents that are to be made available to our Association by the City of Gatineau under an access to information request. Our Lawyer, Me David Robinson, presented this request on October 11th, 2006. The City is to respond to this request by November 10th, 2006.
