A reminder to be careful if you visit one of CFB Petawawa’s beaches. Base officials say swimmers should keep an eye out and steer clear of any unexploded explosive ordinance, left over from millitary practices at the beaches several years ago. Before the beaches along the Ottawa River from Black Point to Black Bear Beach on the north bank opened in 2007, the area was combed for anything left over from previous military exercises, but it possible something could have been missed. Officials say if you think you see one, don’t touch it, remember or mark the location without touching the item, and call 911 or millitary police.
