Beginning this summer boaters will have an easier go of it when they travel the Ottawa River.
A key environmental assessment passed last week was the final hurdle for a boat bypass to be built at the Chat’s Dam power generation station near Fitzroy Harbour.
The city has kicked in $350,000 to help the project. The bypass will be the last of six bypasses along the 325-km route between Ottawa and Temiscaming in Quebec.
West Carleton Ward Coun. Eli El-Chantiry says the idea has been controversial in his ward but the final sites where boat ramps will be built is the best for the community.
Mohr’s Landing close to the Quyon Ferry site will be the launch site for one of the ramps while Lavergne Bay has been targeted as the site for the second ramp.
