City expected to be fined $500,000 for sewage spill

The Ottawa Citizen - Friday, October 10, 2008

The city will be fined more than $500,000 by the province after pleading guilty to dumping close to one billion litres of raw sewage into the Ottawa River and failing to report it, according to media reports.

An agreement has reportedly being reached by lawyers for the city and the Ontario Environment Ministry about the August 2006 spill. Overall, the city dumped 960 million litres of sewage into the river.
