City’s sewage plan deserves criticism

Editorial, Nepean this Week - Wednesday, August 26, 2009

To the editor,

I was outraged when I saw a small article in Nepean This Week that stated Coun. Peter Hume was upset because our Member of Provincial Parliament, Minister Jim Watson, had the gall to speak out about hundreds of millions of litres of raw sewage going into the Ottawa River.

Mr. Hume: Your plan is clearly a failure and is obviously not working since this year alone 800,000 million litres of raw sewage has gone into the Ottawa River – double last year’s amount. You are a prime example of a city councillor who has been in office way too long when you can actually defend this “plan” that you are so proud of!

Mr. Hume is clearly the defender of the status quo and is apparently content with mediocrity. While Mr. Hume is attacking people for wanting a clean Ottawa River, maybe we should be asking why he is still the chair of the city’s environment committee.
