If you’re thinking of heading to the beach to beat the heat this week, there’s good news from the health department.
All four public beaches have low bacteria counts, as of Tuesday afternoon.
According to Jean-Guy Albert, a program manager with Ottawa public health, this summer’s been good for low pollution counts.
That is true even at Petrie Island, which cost the city millions, but remained closed frequently last summer.
Albert says 2006 may have been an anomaly, and there’s new daily testing underway to track the source of pollution at Petrie.
The worst pollution follows heavy rainfall.
While beaches can be closed with bacteria counts of 100.
Last sunday, at Petrie Island, the bacteria count was almost 1000.
