Ottawa residents who have been flooded three times in the last 15 years will be eligible for a $1,000 grant if city council approves the program.
The city’s planning and environment committee approved the program Tuesday. Councillor Marianne Wilkinson, who represents Kanata North, said such a grant would be a compassionate gesture for people who have little or no insurance because of repeated flooding.
Glen Cairn residents in Kanata were the latest residents to be hit with serious flooding in Ottawa, with an intense rainstorm July 24 that flooded hundreds of homes.
