In a story published about the Ottawa River Heritage Designation’s public information meetings, The Daily Observer incorrectly stated that the once federal environment minister John Baird signs the recommendation that the designation will be law.
The designation is not a law, but a formal recognition, making the Ottawa River a national historic site.
The Ottawa River Heritage Designation committee is hosting information sessions in various communities to educate people about the process and alleviate any fears they may have about restrictions on development or landowners.
“We want to give people the opportunity to learn more about the process and become comfortable with what being a Canadian heritage river means,” said Larry Graham, chairman of the committee.
Meetings will be held in Dunrobin, Aug. 30-31, in Jubilee Lodge at CFB Petawawa Sept. 6, and in Haileybury Sept. 13.
The Daily Observer apologizes for any confusion our story may have caused.
