Flood Control Operations Receive International Attention

Josh Pringle, CFRA - Monday, February 22, 2010

The City of Ottawa’s flood control efforts along the Rideau River are receiving some international attention.

The British television network, BBC Earth, will be filming the flood control operations this spring for its show “Human Planet.”

Each spring, the city undertakes ice clearing operations along the waterway to allow water to flow unrestricted and reduce river flooding.

The options include cutting of the keys, ice breaking and placement of an ice control boom between Rideau Falls and Hog’s Back.

The Human Planet episode will air in the spring of 2011 on the Canadian Discovery channel.
