LARGEST FLOTILLA TO PASS PARLIAMENT IN 100s OF YEARS

By Ottawa Riverkeeper and Canadian Heritage River Systems - Thursday, May 31, 2007

OTTAWA – On June 10, 2007, the largest flotilla of voyageur canoes in hundreds of years will pass Parliament Hill as locals gather in celebration of the Ottawa River and Canadian Rivers Day. The flotilla will include at least 10 historic voyageur canoes and dozens of canoes and kayaks.

For the third consecutive year, Ottawa Riverkeeper and the Canadian Heritage Rivers System will be celebrating our mighty Ottawa River with a guided paddle from Victoria Island to Petrie Island. Prior to launching from Victoria Island, Elder William Commanda will bless the paddlers and share his vision of this sacred place. The group will be welcomed at their final destination by the Friends of Petrie Island.

The event is open to all and free of charge. Snacks will be available. Registration is recommended. Come and be part of history, the present and our future!
