Water levels on the Ottawa River and other rivers across the region are being melted by the hot and humid weather this week.
The Ottawa River Regulating Committee says water levels along the Ottawa River are below normal for this time of the year, and will “decrease slightly” this week.
The regulating committee says the above-average rainfall in June has all but disappeared this month due to the hot weather and no rainfall.
Despite the below normal water levels on the Ottawa River, officials insists there is no environmental impact or cause for alarm.
The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority says no rain to date in July has caused water levels to start to decline again along the Rideau watershed, which includes the Rideau River through Ottawa.
The Conservation Authority says the runoff from the June rain caused watershed streams to rebound from unusually low May flows to above average flows for June.
