Mayor Jim Watson’s birthday wish for Canada’s 150th celebration in 2017 is eliminating raw sewage overflows into the Ottawa River.
Plans call for a $150 million underground storage tunnel and tank system to collect raw sewage and rain water during heavy rainfall events.
Watson tells CFRA News the City will need financial support from the Federal and Ontario Governments to fund the project.
Watson says it’s a “dream” to have the project completed by 2017 to help clean-up the Ottawa River.
Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird told CFRA News last week funding to eliminate raw sewage overflows into the Ottawa River would be a priority in 2014, when a new infrastructure funding program is unveiled.
