CHANGES NEEDED TO PROPOSED CIP WET LAGOON REMEDIATION PLAN
March 24, 2009 – Ottawa – Please join Ottawa Riverkeeper, Meredith Brown, and other special guests for an important public meeting hosted by Corporation de la bordure reveraine de Hawkesbury. On Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at La Cite Golf Club (Hawkesbury) delegates including David Donnelly, environmental lawyer, will speak with the public about the future of Hawkesbury’s waterfront, and the concerning CIP wet lagoon remediation plan. In addition, speakers will outline a new technical review and a proposal for total decontamination of the site.
Background: The Ministry of Natural Resources Ontario has selected a proposal to remediate contamination at the CIP wet lagoons site, however independent science-based research suggests that the MNRO remediation plan will provide partial decontamination, and does not prevent ongoing leaching into the Ottawa River. Corporation de la bordure reveraine de Hawkesbury, working with key stakeholders, has developed a plan for complete decontamination for the same investment, which they intend to bring forward in this public meeting.
