More Sewage Flows into the River

Josh Pringle , CFRA - Wednesday, December 28, 2011

The total amount of sewage flowing into the Ottawa River this year is inching closer to the 2010 total.

The combined sewage overflow into the historic waterway is 417-million litres so far this year, including 7-million litres last Wednesday.

In 2010, a total of 443-million litres of raw sewage and untreated water overflowed into the river.

The City claims the $250-million Ottawa River Action Plan has reduced combined sewage overflows.

The City wants to install large underground sewage tanks to collect sewage overflow during heavy rainfall events, but is waiting for NCC approval to install the tanks on federal land.
