National: Public servants drink $2.5M worth of water

Friday, September 24, 2010

Postmedia News, September 24, 2010 –

The federal government spent $2,478,073 on bottled water and water coolers between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010, but, since not every department provided data, that’s likely an underestimate. The data show several departments and agencies spent thousands when safe drinking water was readily available. Among the departments that provided their tabs, Environment Canada and Health Canada were two of the top spenders. “Environment Canada and Health Canada are two departments one would hope would lead by example,” said Tony Clarke, executive director of the Polaris Institute.
