NCC recommends new bridge go across Kettle Island

The Ottawa Citizen - Thursday, September 04, 2008

OTTAWA – A new bridge across the Ottawa River to Gatineau should connect Aviation Parkway with Montée Paiement on the Quebec side, according to a study conducted by the National Capital Commission.

Such a bridge’s main purpose would be take truck traffic off a winding route through downtown Ottawa that connects Highway 417 and Quebec’s Highway 5. The new bridge would lead trucks to the Highway 417/416 interchange on Ottawa’s east side.

The preliminary findings of an environmental assessment by consultants ROCHE-NCE are to be discussed in public meetings on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Gatineau’s Maison du Citoyen and the following evening at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa. Both sessions are scheduled to begin with open houses at 5 p.m., followed by presentations and questions starting at 7 p.m.
