Swimmers are being warned to stay out of the water at all five Ottawa public beaches Monday due to the detection of high E. Coli levels.
Ottawa Public Health issued the no-swim advisories, posting signage and flags at Britannia, Westboro, Mooney’s Bay, Petrie Island River, and Petrie Island East Bay to indicate a potential health risk to swimmers.
No-swim advisories are voluntary. While the beaches remain open, swimming is not advised.
Ottawa Public Health workers assess the water from all four beaches daily, and if high bacteria levels are found, the city will issue a no-swimming advisory. Residents can get daily updates on water quality by phoning 311 or at ottawa.ca/health.
