OTTAWA – Ottawa Mayor Larry O’Brien kicked off a city effort to pressure federal politicians during an expected federal election campaign to help the city with its financial trouble.
“It’s all about money,” said Mr. O’Brien Friday morning, announcing that the city is putting together a survey of all Ottawa candidates that will be shared with city residents when the answers come in.
Mr. O’Brien said candidates will be questioned about whether they support the city’s new $4-billion public transit plan, whether they will help the city pay for long-term changes to the sewer system to stop sewage from being dumped into the Ottawa River, and whether they would support helping Ottawa replace old roads, water pipes and bridges.
