Ottawa Misses Deadline to Clean Up Water

Josh Pringle, CFRA - Thursday, March 13, 2008

The City of Ottawa will miss an April deadline to clean-up what’s being poured into the Ottawa River.

CFRA News has obtained a memo from the Water and Wastewater Division saying it will be the summer before work is completed to stop the flow of sludge left over from the drinking water process into the river.

The city was supposed to fix the problem by the end of last year, and then had the deadline pushed back until April.

The head of the division Dixon Weir tells CFRA News the $80 million dollar construction project has run into delays, adding from time to time there are delays.

The Ministry of Environment has been informed of the delay in the project, but hasn’t formally responded to the City of Ottawa.
