A refresh of Ottawa’s Environmental Strategy will be presented next year.
As part of the new strategy, City Staff are developing a “more refined approach” to greenhouse gas emission calculations, targets and reporting protocols.
A report for the Planning and Environment Committee and Council will be presented next year that will see staff “reset the target” for the city to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The city says recent analysis has determined that using a pre-amalgamation baseline of 1990 for emissions measurement does not result in the most accurate GHG reporting.
Ottawa will now establish a post-amalgamation baseline of 2004 and will report to Council on 2008 emissions levels.
