107.7 myFM Arnprior - Tuesday, September 08, 2009

It’s been called the original trans-Canada highway, and if all things go according to plan, it could also be officially considered part of our heritage. The Ottawa River Heritage Designation Committee is still awaiting an answer from Parliament Hill on its bid for heritage designation. Committee Chairman Larry Graham says that he is hoping to get word soon.

Graham says the only thing he feels that may stand in the way of the designation is the looming possibilty of an election. The campaign to have the Ottawa River designated as a heritage waterway started with longtime Liberal MP and dean of Ottawa Valley politics, the late Len Hopkins, over six years ago.
