Low-lying areas near Mattawa could be threatened
The Ottawa River Regulating Committee is cautioning about flooding in low-lying areas ariound Mattawa.
The agency says the spring runoff is increasing and with warm temperatures predicted this weekend, as well as rain, the situation may worsen.
The ORRC is alerting residents of low-lying areas from Mattawa to Lake Deschenes in the Ottawa-Gatineau area that minor flooding may begin within the next few days.
Latest forecasts indicate water levels are expected to continue
to rise until at least the middle of next week, the agency said in a media release.
Major storage reservoirs in the watershed are containing the majority of the increased runoff in the north, but there is limited capability to deal with the contribution from spring rains.
Further bulletins will be issued if the situation changes.
