Ottawa Riverkeeper Paddling to Highlight Water Issues

By Lauren Davis with Kristi Soble

Where is the worst pollution along the Ottawa River?

That’s one of the questions that local Riverkeeper Meredith Brown will answer this summer during her 900-kilometre paddling trip down the historic waterway.

Brown is stopping at all of the local communities along the way, hoping to spread her message.

“You need to be the guardian of your river,” Brown tells CFRA. “You need to know where your water’s coming from, you need to know what’s impacting it, and you need to speak up and defend it and protect it, because we can’t assume that’s being taken care of.”

Brown will be paddling between Mattawa and Driftwood Provincial Park between now and Friday.

She’ll set off on her next leg, with a group of high school students on August 13.
