Ottawa set to build leachate pipeline

Josh Pringle, CFRA - Tuesday, October 17, 2006

The City of Ottawa is looking to build a pipeline from the Navan Road Dump into the sewer system.

A City Committee has approved a plan to pump leachate from the Navan Road Landfill to the Robert Pickard Centre.

The toxic liquid would be treated through a basic process before it’s sent to the centre. The facility will then treat and release the leachate into the Ottawa River.

Every year 27-hundred tanker truckloads of leachate are transported to the Pickard Centre from the Navan Road landfill site.
