Residents awaiting written responses pertaining to the Ottawa River flood plain can expect to hear from the township within the next two weeks.
Laurentian Valley is waiting for comments from the Ministry of Natural Resources before sending written responses to a handful of residents of Sullivan Point Road and other areas of the township along the Ottawa River, according to treasurer Bruce Lloyd.
“There is a lot of detailed information and we are working with the MNR to make sure it is understandable in the written form before we send it out,” added township planner Lauree Armstrong.
Close to 100 people packed into the Shady Nook Recreation Centre in mid-August for an information session hosted by the municipality with speakers from the MNR and Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to discuss restrictions for properties located in the flood plain and flood fringe.
At the meeting, residents could not ask specific questions pertaining to individual properties and were asked to submit their questions in writing with the understanding they would receive written responses.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, Councillor Debbie Robinson raised the issue about the time line for the responses, indicating she had received calls from individuals.
Ms. Armstrong hopes the written information will help to reinforce the zoning bylaw and differentiate between the flood plain and flood fringe through updated diagrams.
