Canadians have a right to be upset that Ms. Keen was fired since the health of Canadians does not rest in her hands.
Why haven’t serious questions been asked about the conduct of the federal health minister, the Ontario health minister and the executives of the corporations such as MDS Nordion or the various public hospitals? Are not all the stakeholders involved in the handling of this issue? Isn’t there a broader responsibility to prevent a disaster should the Chalk River facility fail again, leaving no suitable backup to supply or arrange for medical isotopes?
It’s hard to believe that they share no collective responsibility. One person surely cannot be solely responsible for this, especially an appointee of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. I believe Mr. Lunn has hastily fired the wrong person. Tony Clement should explain his actions, if not resign.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Stephen Harper should call a public inquiry immediately to investigate the perilous situation that exists within our health-care system, before the world’s number one supplier of isotopes, the Chalk River reactor, fails and more Canadian lives are put at risk again.
