HAWKESBURY – A new organization promoting the economical development of Hawkesbury is seeking a boost from the municipality.

La Corporation de la bordure riveraine de Hawkesbury has been to follow up on the recommendations from the riverfront development committee formed by the Hawkesbury Commercial and Touristic Development Society, group spokesman René Berthiaume told town council Monday.

The corporation has asked that the town mandate the chief administrator and town planner to help the group attain its goals. The organization asked that the mandate be granted immediately. While council did not take any action Monday, the majority of council members back the society.

The 14-member corporation has as its mission the promotion of commercial and tourist projects on the Ottawa River shoreline. It says it will strive to work with other interested parties in implementing mixed residential and commercial development that will be integrated with green spaces.

The corporation wishes to oversee the development and to work in cooperation with governments and promoters.
