Sewage at ‘near-crisis level’: Local riverkeeper

ctvottawa.ca

Ottawa’s Riverkeeper Meredith Brown says sewage dumping in the City of Ottawa has reached a “near-crisis” level.

She also says new federal rules for municipal wastewater facilities will decriminalize sewage dumping, which won’t allow the city to solve the sewage issue.

Brown says the new rules will allow Ottawa and Gatineau to continue the current sewage levels for another three decades.

Sewage dumping is currently illegal under the federal Fisheries Act.
