Three Spills into the Ottawa River

Josh Pringle, CFRA News Talk Radio - Thursday, May 21, 2009

There has been a series of spills into the Ottawa River this week.

City Staff say six million litres of raw sewage flowed into the Ottawa River during Wednesday’s rainfall.

On Tuesday, rainfall sent another two million litres of untreated water into the river.

The city also says 1.2 million litres of highly-acidic water was discharged into the river from the Britannia Water Purification Plant on Tuesday. The spill happened during maintenance work.

The Ministry of Environment, Ottawa Public Health and downstream water system operators have been informed of the spills.
