Participants will be coming from the Marina Kitchissippi de Gatineau, Ottawa New Edinburgh Club, and Petrie Island. Over 75 volunteers of all ages have signed up for the event. High school students and Scouts Canada Venturers will act as trash auditors and will work closely with the Ontario Archaeological Society who will be promoting the historical value of Kettle Island.
Meredith Brown, the Riverkeeper is inviting the community to come on out and see this ecological treasure in the middle of the river. “Kettle Island is a fabulous place to relax and take in the beauty and splendor of the Ottawa River”, she said
“The Kettle Island, who has been a donation by AbitibiBowater, is the biggest alluvial island of the Ottawa River and is mostly composed of an exceptional forest ecosystem dominated by the Common Hackberry. Nature Conservancy of Canada is pleased to collaborate with Ottawa Riverkeeper and thanks RBC for its support for projects involving volunteers such as this one” says Nathalie Zinger, regional vice-president of Nature Conservancy of Canada.
Ottawa Riverkeeper and the Nature Conservancy of Canada will be available for media interviews during the event.
