2nd Annual Ottawa Riverkeeper Pond Hockey Tournament - February 7, 2009

On Saturday, February 7th, six teams participated in the second annual Ottawa Riverkeeper Pond Hockey Tournament on Mud Lake. The event brought our community together; business leaders, politicians, environmentalists and local residents, for a fun-filled day of friendly competition, in support of Ottawa Riverkeeper. In total, we raised $1380 to help us continue our work, protecting the river and defending our communities.

Congratulations to the “Unrestricted Free Agents” who were voted the most fun and most skilled team to play against. Players from “Unrestricted Free Agents” received prizes donated by Mountain Equipment Co-op , and each of the other teams walked away with illuminated Ottawa Riverkeeper pucks .

The Britannia Yacht Club was a fabulous venue for this event. Thank you, Paul Moore (General Manager). Your generosity and support greatly contributed to the overall success of our fundraiser. Players and participants thoroughly enjoyed the warmth of the open fire, and the comfort of a good “home cooked” meal.

This “heritage hockey experience” was exactly what we envisioned, thanks to the support of participants and our great volunteers. A special thanks to Jane Inch, Alec and John Pevelich, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the event was a success.

Local photographers Peter Dudley and Rob Huntley were on-site to document the hockey tournament. Some of their photos are posted below.
