Fall Paddle and Garbage Pick-Up - October 28, 2006

SUCCESSFUL CLEANUP ON BATE ISLAND ORGANIZED BY VOLUNTEER LAUREL ROSENE

During the second annual Fall Paddle and Garbage Pick-up, Ottawa Riverkeeper volunteers performed a cleanup on Bate Island on October 28, 2006. The event was organized by volunteer Laurel Rosene supported by her set up crew of energetic hard working Scouts Canada Venturers. They set up our shelter out of the wind and made up a significant portion of the cleanup crew.

Despite the high wind warning and the extremely high water, over 40 participants cleaned all of the man-made litter from Bate Island and the Ottawa River shoreline on both side of the Champlain Bridge. It shows the commitment of folks to the river that so many people turned up on a day like this!

Volunteers were welcome wit warm drinks from Bridgehead. After a morning of cleaning up the shoreline, everyone was treated to delicious pizzas provided by the Newport Restaurant. Both establishments are long time supporters of Ottawa Riverkeeper. Door prizes and silent auction items were donated by Becky Mason, Brebner Manufacturing, Bushtukah, Heleconia Press, Level Six, Mountain Equipment Coop, Paddlesharck, Rapid Media, & Trailhead.

Another successful Ottawa Riverkeeper project is in the books because of YOU. A huge thank you goes out to all of the volunteers and supporters who participated in this cleanup.
