First Ottawa Riverkeeper Pond Hockey Tournament - February 2, 2008

banner

The tournament was a success with the participation of 7 teams and over $2000 was raised for Riverkeeper. Congratulations to “Beer in the Headlights” who won the prize for the best and most fun team to play against. The players received prizes donated by Mountain Equipment Co-op. Thank you to the community at Britannia who shared beautiful Mud Lake with us – and the community rink caretakers who shovelled snow ALL day. The Britannia Yacht Club was a fabulous meeting and eating spot and thank you to the staff there that helped us out. All the teams can now practice for next year’s event with their own lit biscuit illumined puck!

Our “heritage hockey experience” was a blast, despite having to remove a ton of snow on the morning of the tournament. Thanks to all the players and volunteers who made it exactly the sort of tournament we envisaged. Special thanks to Brad Ross and Katelin Hetherington of the Algonquin College Paramedic Program, who were our volunteer first-aid people. I was also very grateful to Kirk Alexander and Tom Piskor, who worked so hard to create and maintain the Mud Lake rinks. Finally I want to thank Paul Moore, general manager of the Britannia Yacht Club, who offered to host the event at the clubhouse.

Local resident and photographer Peter Farris-Manning was on-site to document the hockey tournament and you can see some of his photos below.

Kudos to all!
