We are pleased to announce that Alexandra Philip of Gloucester High School is the winner of the River of Your Imagination art contest.
Alexandra, in 9th grade, will receive a prize is a package which includes an Ottawa Riverkeeper hat, plus a year long membership to SwimDrinkFish Music Club which features exclusive tracks of great artists.
Additionally, Alexandra is invited to a day on the river with a parent or guardian hosted by Max Finkelstein. This is a great opportunity to learn more about canoeing and experience the river first hand- a prize with a value of $200. Max is the author of Canoeing a Continent: On the Trail of Alexander Mackenzie, and regularly speaks on the topic of the historical value of the Ottawa River. He most recently represented the Ottawa Riverkeeper at the Day of Information for a Lifetime of Action (DILA), an event to inspire high school students to take environmental action.
We also want to congratulate all of the students who entered; we received many outstanding entries. Our only regret is that there can only be one winner. Every student who entered will receive a certificate of participation. We would also like to announce an honourable mention to Jackline Anspach for creativity and Tessa Pyrik for technique.
These three pieces will be framed and displayed at the upcoming Ottawa River Summit where municipal, provincial and First Nation leaders form all over the watershed will be attending to discuss a shared vision for the river.
