The Petrie Islands are a unique wetland and island complex on the Ottawa River downstream from the city of Ottawa. Most of the area is currently under municipal ownership. The islands and adjacent backwaters provide a rich habitat for many species of wildlife and plants, some fairly rare, and offer a unique opportunity to enjoy a wilderness experience close to a major urban centre.
