To educate and engage the public regarding the health of our river system and how we can work together to protect it, Ottawa Riverkeeper has initiated the following programs and services:

Our Riverkeeper gives presentations throughout the watershed to raise awareness of watershed issues and engage individuals or groups to become stewards of the river.
Given the demand for such talks, it’s unfortunate we cannot accept all of our invitations. Instead, we have become strategic about reaching out to targeted groups and geographical regions. We have been invited to a number of governmental organizations to discuss our organization’s goals and programs. These include the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, the Commissioner of the Environment at the Auditor General of Canada and the City of Pembroke municipal council.

Encouraging people to get out and enjoy the river is the first step toward creating a river steward. Throughout the year we organize events to encourage people to celebrate their river and get involved in maintaining its ecological integrity.
Our events include river clean ups and a group paddle from Victoria Island to Petrie Island to celebrate Canadian Rivers Day. We also participate in and receive donations from the Ottawa Riverkeeper Triathlon at Britannia Beach.
Ottawa Riverkeeper is invited to participate in numerous events throughout the year. We typically bring a booth with relevant information and news as well as a staff or volunteers to answer questions or concerns about the river.
