American Eel Fact Sheet

Eel Picture

Caught any eels on the river lately?

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) is trying to determine the extent and health of the eel population in the Lac des Chats section of the Ottawa River. Populations of the American eel in Ontario are dwindling and the province is looking at putting the fish on the list of endangered species. Anglers who catch eels are being asked to record some basic information about them before releasing the eel back to the river (a must).

Read the American Eel Factsheet [pdf file: 0.31mb] and find out how you can help the MNR.
